atlas o Industrial Rail Sante Fe - Locomotive connection to tender?

I just bought the Atlas Deluxe Work train, and I'm having a REALLY hard time connecting the wire from the tender to the locomotive.

Any suggestions? I sent an e-mail to two different people at Atlas 3 days ago, but so far no response.

It is possible that there are some metal pieces in either the male or female end of the connector and they can easily bend, so that may be your problem... My MTH tender does not like to hook up to its locomotive unless it is squared up perfectly, and that is always a pain for me because I can barely get my hands in there :o
