Just found this forum. I feel dumb as a box of rocks with this question. but.... Here is a newbie that knows absolutely nothing about railroading. Been working with 1:64 scale diecast trucks for years. DCP, Tonkin, First Gear. I bought a HO Scale Model Power train set [used]. The train engine has horn hook couplers and the cars have magnetic knuckle couplers. The horn hook
and the knuckle couplers do not stay connected. Appreciate any help.

Thanks - David

Hi David,

Best to remove the horn hook couplers from the engine and install magne-matic ones. You can get them from your hobby shop. Installation is pretty easy, but don't be afraid to bring the engine in with you so you get everything you need, and the people at the shop know EXACTLY what you are trying to achieve.

Alternatively, you can just order some off eBay, but you won't know if they are the right ones until you get them. The Kadee #5 seems to work well for most applications.

Memory jog on the 1:64 scale die cast trucks that you have. "S" scale trains are also 1:64 scale. This was made by american flyer and is now a defunct scale. In the 1950"s, American Flyer was trying to compete with Lionel with a slightly smaller scale for kids to grab easily. This was the in between size to HO so the kids could rerail easy as well. Unfortunatel;y Lionel pushed them off the market. Older kids went to HO for handling and sczale size.
