Hello,
I just purchased a used MTH Rail King 2-8-8-2 Y6B steam engine that does not move:(. Sound, lights and smoke work, but the two DC motors do not work. The local Lionel repair man said gut the engine and install a Dallee E-unit. Does any one have experience with this older MTH engine?

HI
Check the motors by jumping some DC to them. The new e unit may work.
MTH has part lists. On a quick search I found A 2-8-8-2 made in 2000. This is a parts lists link (http://extranet.mth-railking.com/pdfapp/pdfs/exploded/30ST12491E.pdf)
Check that you get the both connections to the track. You may need the tender for one of the supplies.
I don't have one this is the best I can do. BUT MTH does have diagrams. I did not know that before.:)

I suspect your engine was in the 15 year anniversary catalog.

Once again T-Man you hit the spike on the head. I don't know why I post my problem on all the forms instead of just calling U. My Y6b was a slight different number but getting me to the MTH site did the trick. Of all things the tender has a 9 volt battery. If the battery is low, the train don't go. Can you believe that? I put in a new 9 volt and away it went.
Here is a youtube of my new/used Lionel Mohawk, MTH Big-boy and the smoking Y6b :) (model number 30-1163-1)
