So, who here is into hockey of any kind? I got into it a couple years ago, and it is my favorite sport now with baseball a close second... Being from New Hampshire, my favorite team is the Boston Bruins... Hopefully they will make the playoff this year :o

Anyways, are you a Maple Leafs fan Tworail? Hehehe, they actually won the other night :p

They are playing the Bruins right now... Do not worry, the Bruins WILL pull of a win here :D

I just want them to get into the playoffs for the first time since I started following hockey :eyes:

Today was the trade deadline... My Bruins stayed quiet, which is alright with me...

But man, there is this one trade which Montreal (Bruins' arch-enemy) made that I just do not get... They traded their number one goalie, C. Huet, for a second round draft pick! I mean hello! :smilie_auslachen:

So now they are relying on a rookie to be their number-one goalie and lead them into and through the playoffs - not going to happen IMO because he is a :newbie:

WOW! That one one heck of a game I just watched!

The Capitals were in town after beating the Bruins 10-2 back on their home ice a few games ago...

Washington got the early lead in the first, and then that was it for the scoring until late in the third... The Capitals started to become un-disiplined and took a total of like six penalties in the last seven minutes of the game... Boston then scored two 5-on-3 goals to take the 2-1 lead and win the game!

Dang, I wish I was down at the Garden!

Anyways, this is funny, we are playing Montreal in the playoffs... The Bruins have lost eleven straight games to Montreal between the end of last year and this year, this is the longest streak in their 80+ year history of playing each other... This year the Bruins went 0-7-1, loosing the last game in a shoot-out... So, what are the odds that Montreal will beat us?

After a long and hard season, there will be no more hockey until October... In the end, the Detroit Red Wings edged out the Pittsburgh Penquins in game six of the finals three goals to two, and clinched the Stanley Cup four games to two... Game six came down to a mad scramble in the last seconds just like gave five had, and the Penquins came inches away from tying the game; very exciting indeed :)

Today was the first day of Free Agency, and the biggest name out there, Marian Hossa, has not been signed yet... The Bruins apparently went after him, but he does not want to play here

The players we lost were Alex Auld and Glen Metropolit... I do not mind seeing Auld, a goalie, go since we have plenty of them LOL... On the other hand I would have liked to see Metropolit stick around, he was a good third line center...

The players we have signed so far are Blake Wheeler and Michael Ryder... Wheeler is still in his college years IIRC, so I do not know what to say about him... Ryder was a Canadien, our arch rivals from the north, but he is a good winger, which is what we need more of :)

Hey super-mod - I wish I could talk hockey with you.

I use to follow it every year. Go BLUES! But not any longer. It was the strike that did it. Like children in a sandbox (players and management) fighting over the shovel and pail, they forgot what makes hockey hockey - the fans. Turn their back on me? I'll do the same. I'm too young to be this bitter and grumpy sounding :D

The only sport I watch NOW is casually watching S. American & occasional UK futbol (soccer to us US residents).

Good luck to your Bruins though!

Well, to show my true colors on the matter, during/after the strike, here in St. Louis we had:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missouri_River_Otters

Some of the 'good' Blues players joined the team, it was WAY cheaper to go, and what I thought, a better atmosphere. (Besides playing... ex. slow rec. skate once or twice a year with the kids) I can relate.

We've got the Scorpions in Albuquerque. We used to have the Roadrunners in Santa Fe, but since the arena (i.e. local skating rink) wouldn't allow them to sell alcohol, they left. Next closest professional team is the Avalanche, a six hour drive away.

Semi-pro teams are fun to watch, they've got some real heart in their play.

Years ago, when times were hard, Kaintuckians headed north to the land called Michigan. Those that ran out of money stopped in Indiana. They are called Hoosiers(term comes from when someone knocks at the door and the occupants go, "Who's s'ere").

Others made it to the promised land of Michigan and found jobs in the auto industry.

And there were those that couldn't read a map. They traveled and traveled. Finally winter came. Not knowing ice from frozen sod, they walked clean across the frozen Great Lakes lakes, ending up in Canada. Well, in reference to their native land, and feeling a need to establish their own mark in the world, they called themselves Canuckians, a term shortened by following generations to Canucks. And there you have it.

It's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

One guy was from Kitchner, Ontario 2 from Toronto and the rest from the Detroit area. HOLY HANNAH....I thought they'd drop the gloves in those last 3 Power plays by Canada....amazing. I'm torn though....HUGE Jagr fan and have been pulling for the Czech Rep....go figure.:D

Congrats to the Canadians for a hard fought victory! Syd the Kid....what more can you say! GEt a chance to look at the NY Times Sunday Sports edition and have a hoot at the two Canada women hockey players having some bubbly and a Molson beer after the gold medal ceremony....great stuff! Now if the NHL can top this tourney that would be great!

Hopefully your Beantowners can keep that MO they had going into the break....I can't remember a tighter playoff race between so many teams. watch out for the Sabres they always get hot during the second half and can make a run at Ottawa( whats a Roman Senator doing in Canada?)! Good luck B&M:thumbsup:

Who says these guys don't fight come playoff time......just makes the series that much more enjoyable. The Habs take the Caps in overtime, The Senators take the Penguins and The Kings and Canuks are in OT......and my Sabres take the Bruins....love playoff hockey! How bout that ruckus after the first Buffalo goal...what 10minutes into the first period and bodies started flying, punches were thrown 1 10min misconduct...WOW! You won't find this much excitement in an NBA playoff game and you can feel the love these teams have for each other...noway!:laugh:

Wow the Devils put a WHOOOPINon Phillie last night 5-2 and certainly look like a Cup Contender....but its early. Playoffs have been extremely physical but with some fine skating.....its been a good year for the NHL.

Congrats B&M & Bradimous.....Bruins over my Sabres ouch! These playoffs have been incredible...OTs up the wazoo. Phillie took apart Jersey as the did the regular season, the Blackhawks and Wings are playing well....what a whoppin the "Tires with Wings" put on the Coyotes in Pheonix. And yes "Le Habitats" have returned....in Upstate NY you love the Sabres, could care less for the Rangers and Islanders, feel sorry for the Maple Leafs.....and Hate the Canadiens! And 40yrs later it hasn't changed....but thats Hockey Country for ya! And as for Mr. Bettman.....David Stern Jr. he's done a nice job finally...the league is looking a lot better!

The Habs have stunned me completely:eek:....just waiting for them to fold....no way! Bruins / Flyers game 7 is gonna be tough. Yeah...Boston vs. Montreal just like old times....and as always I'm rootin against "Le Habitates"! But the Bruins have been tested against my Sabres and pulled it out......I'm showin da love for my Beantown Brothers! Did you see the Canadien fans sold out the arena to just WATCH the Penguin game...18 thousand die hards...WOW!

Did you see the Canadien fans sold out the arena to just WATCH the Penguin game...18 thousand die hards...WOW!

heard they stopped selling beer early at the event and also had bars within a couple of blocks of the stadium not sell beer after the event... all to try to stop the inevitable riot that happened anyway.

my question, how do you talk a bar owner into not selling beer?

tonight should be interesting... if close, I think the Bs win, but if one team blows the other out, it will be a Flyers win... just my prediction

notice the non-committal prediction

The Bruins face a LONG off season, and as Barry Melrose said "This will go down in The Lore of Bruins History".......3-0 playoff lead....a 3-0 game 7 lead....and lose(too many skaters on the ice....c'mon)! You guys have to be pissed!

MacDaddy55
05-30-2010, 12:53 AM
Now don't get me wrong......the Blackhawks had a great season(I'm pullin for the Flyers) but their fans should stick to watching Pewee Hockey at the Joliet Public Ice Rink....don't know a cross check from a slashing penalty....and obnoxious.....its been a while since they have experienced a championship(see White Sox). Thank God the Cubs are losing.....its hard to take. I did have a nice conversation with an older couple who remember Stan Mikita and the Golden Jet Bobby Hull that was nice...they even said Blackhawk Fan is TOO MUCH:eek::eek:!
