Well, I finally made it back to the folks' house today to pick up the track and transformer.

The tracks fit snugly together and are rather clean. The transformer on the other hand, came from my dad's earlier American Flyer set.

I hooked up a small oval to test the locomotive to see if it would even come to life.

And come to life it did!! The old girl was a little hesitant at first, but began zipping around the track in no time.

Next, some cars were added to see if the pulling power was still there. Yep, it is!!

Now for the cleanup and general fine tuning to get her ready for the Christmas season.

Awesome! I just got started with Lionel myself, so I know the fun you're having right now. Christmas...hmmmm....I had intended to do an HO set under the tree, but I might change my mind!

Congratulations!
I often wonder when an engine ran last before it started to collect dust.
You have to admit it is a dependable product built to last.

I know this one has been idle since the early to mid 70's.
That's the last time I remember seeing it.

I'll admit to being obsessed with Lionel O scale, my son whose eight loves them too, and the females in the house think there cool. So I get to build a layout around the tree this year. It should be a lot of fun. I guess what amazes me most is the engineering that is involved in the O scale model train the motors and drive trane. They're amazingly robust especially the older ones.
