View Full Version : Anyone with Vista?

I was wondering if anyone here is using Windows Vista as their OS... Currently I have Windows XP Professional, but I can get Vista Business free through my college... Would it be worth it to upgrade, it Vista that much better?
Also, it has been a LONG time since I upgraded an OS without it being through buying a new computer... So if I were to upgrade, would it just "layer" over XP leaving all of my files alone, or does it completely re-vamp the hard driving meaning I would have to save everything to a flash-drive first?

Don't bother. Vista is terribly user-unfriendly, despite it being a latest gen OS, especially if you have been using XP for a while. I don't have it personally but I've used it on occasion and it is quite painful to do anything... pop ups out the ying-yang asking if it's OK to access every single web page you visit among other downright annoying 'features'.
Avoid at all costs!

Well I haven't used Vista yet but I am shopping for a new computer. All reports I have seen are 10:1 against Vista. They report nightmares in operation and getting manufacturer to service their own hardware. Drivers are not available for Vista for the different machines and they may not be for a while.
My plan is to stay with XP Pro and get Vista when it gets a little more aged... like me.
Age brings wisdom I am told...

I forgot about this thread... I am still on XP Office here at home, but my college has switched over to Vista... Yea, I am going to stick with XP for as long as I can and hope Vista blows over

My lap top has Vista Home Premium. I made a picture disc for a friend and it would not work on a millenium machine but it did work on XP. It' a compaq I like the gadgets with it. Time Zones and weather diplays, I keep in touch with both coasts.I haven't figured out how to Window Explore on Vista. I don't think it is bad, I process pictures and used the forum just fine.:D

It was from a blog posting about 'Microsoft breaking out the bubbly to celebrate a Vista price drop' or something so it is somewhat fitting :D

If you are planning on getting vista for your laptop/Desktop, (I am addressing the hardware part of it) your computer might not meet the min standards to properly use Vista. Use XP until it dies, then buy a new computer, (unless you know how to gut a Desktop and install all new hardware) then install it.
I bought 2 additional XP OS for my next computer builds just so I don't have to mess with vista.

I use both. The laptop is an old one and is loaded with XP. The desktop is loaded with Vista as the OS. I like Vista better. It has a more versatile security system that can be fine tuned to the owner's taste. Beware however, Vista does not work well on old hardware nor does it work well with less than 2g of RAM. It is a more powerful OS than XP. Many more user options and better security. The laptop is being replaced very soon and Vista will be the OS.
