Well, I have my prewar Lionel and my brand new MTH Premier, but there is also a third time-period which I want to get into... That would be early postwar Lionel, basically from the '40s and '50s... I saw this on eBay and decided to pick it up (I was a sniper, hehehe )...

It appears to be in good condition, and I got it for cheaper than another one he sold in worse condition...

On a side note, what exactly is the "cattle stop"? Obviously I know what it must do, but does anyone have a picture of it? Just because of my curiosity, LOL :D

Nice find. Do you have any other pre-war Lionel or is this the first piece?

I'm amazed at the price.. but the volume of Lionel on eBay is huge, around 17,000 items when I checked. Kind of tempting actually.. :)

Nice find. Now, let's see some of those prices filter down to LGB land, a package of rail joiners I can't even get for that

Something that was made so long ago... very good condition.

I got the 6472 in the mail yesterday and started cleaning it up... I read somewhere that using some kind of whitening toothpaste on these cars work well and it does!

Anyways, I just put the doors back on one side and those springs are a PITA to get back in there

I am going to glue the door on the other side shut though... There were only two springs total, and also one of the posts used to hold one of the doors in place was broken off...

Also, I might as well repaint the base too just for the heck of it...

I was wondering though if anyone knows where you can buy those "horse-shoe" clips which hold the wheels to the base? I will check out my local hardware stores, but I do not know if they will have them...

E-clips they are called I believe.. your hardware store should have some, but maybe not small enough. They might be able to point you in the right direction though.

The originals are not exactly "e-clips"... I went to the hardware store and (as I figured) they did not have the horseshoe clips... Since you mentioned e-clips I checked them out and actually they are better than the OEM clips... They are so much easier to get off the trucks

Here is a horseshoe clip and an e-clip just to differentiate...

LOL, I just picked up this lot... The reefer had one staple-end truck and one bar-end truck on it, and I am too OCD to put it back together that way... I should be able to get my money back though as I can just sell the bar-end truck from this lot along with my other one
