How in the heck do you get a rust color paint by mixing other colors???????????????????
I have just about every color paint you can imagine accept for red which should mix well with brown to make rust. I am working on weathering a bridge.
I am ready to just prick my finger and use blood.............OH wait.....That will work. :smokin:
I am cutting myself working on this all the time anyway. :lol_hitting:

Two easy ways to solve your problem:
1. Buy rust colored paint. I have at least 1 jar around at all times.
2. Get a artists chalk kit, or look for 'earthtone pastels' there are at least 2 or 3 suitable 'rusts' in there, plus other shades you will need for weathering.
But to answer your original question, I'm not sure what colors you need to mix.
This track in the pic below was painted with Floquil Rust, straight out of the bottle. Granted, it could be a bit darker, but that is where you follow up with the chalks to give it some character:

Good lord! Now I know the color on this moniter is whacked. That entire picture showed up in dirrerent shades of yellow.
I know I could just buy some rust colored paint. Where is the challenge in that. :D

I ended up pricking my finger with a steryl lancet after cleaning it with an alcohol prep and using blood. Sorry if that freaks anyone out but it has been used as paint for ever.
It turned out looking like rust after drying and was free. ;)

Wow, Shaygetz...I love the weathering on the Enjay Plastics car! I'm trying to achieve exactly the same kind of thing with a building...the opaque brown drips down the side. How did you get that effect? I've been pulling my hair out trying to achieve that!

Thanks for the kind words...the technique is pretty easy to do. I use cheap craft paints like those found in Wal-Mart, in this case Nutmeg Brown. I put a squirt on a paper plate with a small cup of water on the side. I soak my brush, a 1/2" sable straight edge, then dip a bit into the paint, pulling it out to the center of the plate. I paint over the whole car with a very light wash of the color, then come back with stronger streaks that I pull down from the roof edge. After it dries, I overspray it all with a coat of Krylon 1311 Clear Matte Finish.

Ok, so it didn't work out quite as I'd hoped. However, through trial and error, I think I have found a promising alternative. I've mixed several colors of chalk together and started applying with a 0 flat brush and a 0 pointed brush (Is pointed the right word?). Keep your fingers crossed again!
Thanks for the encouragement....Lisa
