*laughs*....I'm just peeking in to see what's going on. Didn't want to start any coversations I couldn't follow up on! It's Sunday night----we got about 90% of the two storage sheds emptied out. One or two mini-van loads to go, mostly stained-glass stuff and a few more boxes. We worked from 7 am to 7 pm, and it liked to kill all three of us---myself, my girifriend, and my 30-year-old son. Had to dismount both the back door to the house and the door to the basement, and still left a lot of stuff piled on the deck for later.
Got up this morning and began packing some more----the last of the dishes, dismantling the bed (it's mattress-on-the-floor, tonight!), and I'll tear down the pc and tv stuff after I finish this post. In the morning, the movers come and strip the apartment. Tuesday am, the people from cable tv and Internet come over to hook me back up, but I'll still have tons of work to do getting stuff into the house and the last dregs out of the apartment. Hope to be able to stop in and talk on Wed evening, though! You guys take care, and thanks for thinking of me!

Three new guys wanted to know about S scale members here.
I told them we had none right now.:D
I talked them into O scale instead.

*laughs*....hey, guys! Remember me?
The great move is finished---cleaned the apartment this evening and will call the landlady in the morning. New place is nice, but FILLED with boxes!!!!! It's gonna be a two months just unpacking everything. Right now, Steppy (that's my fiance) and I are aching, limping, moaning, and happily ensconced in the new place. I'd take pics of the train-room for ya, but it's literally 2/3 filled with boxes, right now. Anyway, I miss talking to you guys and got the internet turned on today, so I should be gradually returning to running my mouth, soon!
See ya!!!!

Glad to see that your still alive and kicking or maybe limping. Glad to hear that your move went smoothly. Now the real fun begins, unpacking and organizing. Woohoo.!

Reckers,
You either:
a) remembered to leave a little pathway between the piles of boxes so that you could actually navigate your way to the door, or ...
b) are fully encased within a 360-degree wall of boxes, but have found the PC, one extension cord, and a wall outlet.
If (a), congratulations ... you made it!
If (b), don't despair ... in dire circumstances, cardboard is actually edible ... and you can at least enjoy a little "train chat" on your way "out".
See you on the other side ...

Yeah, what TJ said!
And don't forget, save all your boxes for T-Man, he could build a "Megapolis" out of all that cardboard:laugh:
sorry T-Man, couldn't resist:)

There is truth to that.
Yes I Love cardboard. Just last week I was eyeing a guy at the recycle bin chucking huge sheets away. I almost told him to load my truck up!!!
In the end I resisted and regretted.

T-Man, c'mon down and get all these boxes! *L* Every room is chock full of them. So is the basement and the back deck. My gf can't understand why a man living in an apartment would have a heavy block and tackle, a chain saw, a cant-hook and splitting wedges. *L* On the other hand, the need for multiple wreaths to hang on the wall is beyond me, too.
Back as soon and as often as I can---you guys take care!

Well golly! Everybody knows that a tree can fall on your home without warning, and then what? Wait for help? Not Reckers. No siree, he cuts that old tree up, splits it and sells it for more "S" toys!:)

 and there i thought real guys are supposed to do knitting and embroidery... do you think i was misled?
neat thing BTW, love the 17-18 century ship stuff. we had to chop down a pine tree in our backyard last summer. i left the stump about 6ft high. going to build a "pirate ship" playground for our boy and nephews.

Now what you need to do is go out and rent storage space and get all those boxes out of there!
Can't run a RR that way.
Two more were asking about S. I told them no one is here that runs S.
You better hurry back so you can tell them different.:D

You guys are great! TJ, I love the old tools---that's a beautiful door-framer's plane, if my eyes don't deceive me. Tankist, thank you----it was hard work for several days, but today we finally slowed down and enjoyed it a little. Stillakid, you aren't far wrong; I used to drop my own trees for firewood, use a tractor to drag the trunks back close to the house, chainsaw them to length and split 'em for the woodstove. Women don't understand the need to drag a blowdown to the right spot before you strip it of limbs. Ed, I'm clearing the storage shed I have next week and then I'm never getting near another one. It was a divorce that put me into it and I'm passing on divorces for now, thankya!

Reck,
Good to see you back up and posting your regular goodies. Glad to hear the move was a success. Hope the 2-month "unpack and dig out" goes OK, too! I'm sure you and the GF will soon be saying, "Ohhh ... so THAT's where we packed the thingamajig."
Bingo on the door plane ... I've got a nice little collection ... I find 'em cheap at tag sales and try my best to clean them up ... a little linseed oil, elbow grease, etc. Beautiful little pieces of art in many cases.
Hope to see progress on the "Grand Continental S Railway" pretty soon!

Morning, TJ! At this point, all progress on the train is in my head---though the gf keeps asking about the packages I'm still receiving! We're still digging out, but the days are better now---that move was miserable! Yesterday, I caught her sneaking boxes out of the living room (hers to set up) and into the office (mine to clear and set up!), So, we're having fun, and the aches and pains are gradually fading.

Thank you, everyone, for the kind wishes and the sage advice! The train room is now wall-to-wall boxes, so excavation will be necessary before any train work begins. However, we have the bedroom set up, kitchen, dining room, living room all together now, and the bathroom has a new medicine cabinet and the curtain is up in the shower! Outside, the front and back lawns are freshly mowed, and we put down rock and sand, today. I'm guessing they were 40# bags of "Calico Stone", i.e., mixed, rounded river rock about the diameter of a quarter. 14 bags of those suckers around the bushes out front, plus 4 bags of sand to go between the slate flagstones on the walkway. Tomorrow, I may sneak out and rent a rototiller and get her flower garden tilled up while she's at work. I've decided to put a small veggie garden in the back, as well, so I'll try to till both up in one shot. First day of rain, though, I work indoors in the basement and try to sort out that mess. I still have a bandsaw that needs the legs removed to get it to fit down the basement stairs. It's hiding on the deck, under a tarp. I figure one more week to have us settled in, and about 6 weeks to do the basement rearranging and sorting.

That's an incredible amount of work you two have accomplished in such a short period of time. My hat's off to you both!:)
Once it feels like, "Home", it's off to the races! You'll know exactly where you want everything(I know, out of YOUR basement!:) ), but just think of all the potential.
And then there's that, "Green Thumb!" Good for you:)
So Reckers, nothing left for you to do but, "Git Er Done!"

I may get lucky---weatherman is calling for rain, Saturday. *L* If it looks dubious, I'll finish up the office and start on the basement---thank you both! I still need to finish unloading her Windstar and then reloading it with stuff for a yard sale---things I'm needing to part with and the sale for a lady at work who has a family emergency. So...empty the van, fill the van, do the office, and then it's basement time! Or rototiller time if the weatherman lied. *L*

So.......if it rains you can start on your bench work right?:D
Reckers

You're both right and wrong. So far, the wind is up so it's pretty obvious a storm is moving in. I went to the store to get a tarp to cover the riding mower---no shed or garage here. While out, I purchased the mandatory Easter Basket and contents. *L* I know better than to let that one slide! So, now it's finish clearing the office, then off to the basement to start assembling the bench for benchwork! I have to make some space before anything else can happen---putting the legs back on and setting it up will be a good start. And gets me that much closer to playing with my trains...*L*

Good luck Buddy. It's looking like rain here also. I don't have to do the Easter basket garbage anymore as a free man. Hopefully the rototiller didn't beat you up. Get that bench rolling, can't wait to see it all up and rolling.
Reckers
04-03-2010, 08:09 PM
Thank you, Rob! I was lucky---rain by about 10 am, so no tiller! I agree with you on the "free man" issue----isn't it great when the only expectations you have to meet are your own? As for me, I ran out and got the requisite basket and candy. Good thing I did----she came home with a set of wind-chimes for me for Easter. *L* I got the bench put up today---it's loaded with boxes, but they're all train boxes! Tomorrow, I plan to set up my 4 x 8 stained-glass table. That hobby is in retirement for the moment, but the table will let me have a top surface for some layout and testing on trains, and the bottom shelf gets all the glass gear and stock. I'm slowly coming to terms with the mountain of boxes down there, so I can see the headway being made. Tomorrow, my son comes over for dinner---time for some R&R on the back deck! For you northerners, it's SPRINGTIME IN THE SOUTH!!! The dogwoods and redbuds are in bloom, the cherry trees perfume the air and the daffodils are competing with the forsythia for attention. In a few weeks, tulips will be escorting the Kentucky Derby into arriving! Life is good!

I'm having fun and living it up right now. I'm getting things slowly back to normal. Now, just have to find a place for my layout. It didn't rain here but it sure looked like it most of the day. Ended up doing lawnmower/VW repair most of the day. Rabbit truck is back up and ready to terrorize the streets again. Sounds like a frieghter headed at full power now. Gotta get that exhaust fixed and road tripping I'll go :)

Happy Easter, Rob! Have a great day, enjoy the sunshine and your freedom! If I may quote Will Geer from the movie Jeremiah Johnson, "I swear, a woman's breast is the hardest rock that the Almighty ever made on this earth, and I can find no sign on it." Put "Free Bird" on the CD player and be glad you're alive!

I was thinking more along the lines of "Green grass and high tides forever" as I scoot down to the relatives for easter dinner. Have a good Easter and enjoy the day also.
