Just want to wish everyone a safe and Happy Easter. :) Soon it will be time to hide the eggs and watch the children run around laughing and giggling with glee searching for the golden egg. This year, we are going to try a scavenger hunt instead of just hiding a bunch of eggs that the kids already know where to look.

What nice thoughts ... thanks, gents!
With yesterday being April Fools Day, I arrived home, heard the kids snickering inside the house, then walked smack dab into the old "bucket of plastic eggs propped on top of the door" gag. At least it wasn't a bucket of water!
Happy Easter,

Won't be an Easter this year. I mistakenly shot the Easter Rabbit during hunting season last year.
Oddly, when we made the rabbit stew, it tasted like black jelly beans.......
Happy Easter All!!!!!

The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ's victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The meaning of Easter also symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He was really the Son of God and that He had conquered death once and for all.
However, Easter did not always symbolize Christ's resurrection from the dead and the meaning of Easter was quite different than what Christians celebrate today. The feast day of Easter was originally a pagan celebration of renewal and rebirth. Celebrated in the early spring, it honored the pagan Saxon goddess Eastre. When the early missionaries converted the Saxons to Christianity, the holiday, since it fell around the same time as the traditional memorial of Christ's resurrection from the dead, was merged with the pagan celebration, and became know as Easter. The meaning of Easter was also changed to reflect its new Christian orientation.
Today, the meaning of Easter, for million of Christians, is that of honoring and recognizing Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead, and His glorious promises of eternal life for all who believe in Him.
Whatever the meaning of Easter is for you,....:D
I wish all a happy holiday!
From Reverend Big Ed:laugh:
Edit......,
For the Easter bunny and Easter egg thing........,
Contemporary traditions such as the Easter Bunny and the Easter egg can also be traced back to the practices established by Semiramis. Because of their prolific nature, rabbits have long been associated with fertility and its goddess, Ishtar. Ancient Babylonians believed in a fable about an egg that fell into the Euphrates River from heaven and from which Queen Astarte (another name for Ishtar or Semiramis) was "hatched."

big ed, if the truth be known, most of the holidays we celebrate can be traced to pagan feasts.
I think that we, as Christians, have adopted these celebrations in order to glorify and hold up our faith to the Eternal One. Even the Jewish denomination has rituals that can be tied to pagan holidays. I think it was easier then, as it is now, to just rename those celebrations and place our religious virtues to these feasts.
Other than the Immaculate Conception and birth of Christ, His Resurrection is one of the true Miracles of Christianity.

Thanks for the history, Big Ed. Adding some trivia: It is now believed that Jesus' burial cloth was the table cloth used in the Last Supper. It is very unique in its weave and size, and the Shroud of Turin shows both.
Happy Easter all. We are hoping it doesn't snow on our church's Easter egg hunt for the little ones.

Instead of "hello" or its equivalent, one is to greet another person with "Christ is Risen!", and the response is "Truly, He is Risen"

In honor of Easter, my dog Princess has hidden a number of soft, brown eggs out in the yard. Everyone is welcome to come by and join the Easter Egg hunt, today! Let's see who can find the most!

Nice! Hope Everyone had a great Easter Din Din and a great Easter. We got a real Easter Bunny today. No, she didn't lay any golden eggs like I hoped she would. My wife and kids are ecstatic over the rabbit and I've named my youngest son Elmer Fudd because he won't let the rabbit be. Be vewy, vewy quiet. He's hunting wabbits.

Way to go, Mike! every family needs to have a bunny for Easter, at least once. We invited my son (he's 30 and single) over for a relaxed cookout. Burgers, salad, fries, strawberry shortcake, and beer on the deck while we watched the birds examine the new feeders. Goldfinches showed up for the first time to celebrate Easter for us!

It sounds like you had a great Easter, Len. It's nice when you can just relax and enjoy the day, especially after a big move like you had. Our big Easter dinner is tonight, but yesterday after cleaning up the yard of twigs and such, we made a fire and roasted wienies.
