I grew up in Essex Junction Vt just east of Burlington.

Vermont is a lovely state, and there are plenty of small defunct and merged railroads to model. Not to mention mountains, lakes, etc.

We never spent much time in the southern part of the state. Did visit the Bennington Monmument one time in 6th grade.

Nice area ... right in the Green Mtn Nat'l Forest region. Great hiking trails, skiing, etc. Appalachian Trail runs right through the area, I think.

It's all a bit removed from big-city living, so think a bit about your interests, activities, etc.
