5 hours into a complete reformat and restoration of a corrupted Windows XP box here. Ugggg Thank god I have Carbonite to restore all of the data files. Would be nice if I didn't have to install almost a gig of XP patches. :mad:

This reminds me of the time my hard-drive died on me for no reason... Of course computers these days come with the OS already downloaded onto them and I never made a hard copy of it (if that is even possible)... So I had to go out and buy a new hard drive and spend another $150 on the OS :mad:

I think I've mentioned before that I teach computer classes. Among many computer engineering types its a common practice to back everything off, reformat, and reinstall the OS and apps every six months. I claim that's what I do, but I have so many machines that frequently one of them gets corrupted before I get around to it.

yeah we have a little more than 40 boxes including the servers, and our it consultant was out so I ended up getting it back up and running but it wasn't enjoyable.
