New mexico and colorado Cumbres Toltec lost a trestle bridge today. they think it might have been fire works.
They still have to look it over and see what damage has been done but for right now it's closed. It is going to run from Antonito to Osier CO till they can rebuild it.
I hate fire works in the wrong hands. I rather go see a good show than light them in the hood plus my doggie freeks.

Bummer ... stupid kids (perhaps).

Sure blame the kids!
Might have been some irresponsible adults.

I used to shoot fireworks for Garden State Fireworks (World Champions) with my brother. We did the big shows the towns put off for the 4th.

The fuses on some were about 12" long with the first 3" of it taking, say 6 seconds to burn so as to get the bomb up in the air to explode. The remaining 9" taking less then a fraction of a second to burn.

At one show (we didn't shoot) a report went up and the 3" part of the fuse burned down to the 9" part and fizzled out the report dropped into the woods.

( A report is the boom, boom, boom you hear in the shows they have no color just the sound.)

Well some guy saw where it went down and picked it up. Seeing the 9" fuse he thought he would have enough time to light it with his cigar and throw it up into the air.

In a milla second the bomb went off in his hand and blew off all his fingers, messed up his arm and face and did permanent hearing damage.! DUH!

Yes, Please leave the fireworks for the pro's to shoot off.

Besides bombs going of prematurely and us hitting the ground, we never had any problems. The reason they went off near the ground is because we sometimes used a heavy cardboard tube to shoot them out of and the bottom of the tube would sometimes blow out eliminating the lift to get it up.
We all most all ways used heavy metal tube castings to fire the bombs. These were set up by digging out a hole and setting them in the ground. Where we couldn't dig ya had to use the tubes. If you got new cardboard tubes you could trust them for a show, but if they were used in other shows they were weakened some.

The imported Jap bombs were pretty reliable but the Chinese bombs sucked you couldn't trust them.

Garden State all most all ways used their own Home made bombs.

They used to do the Disney shows, I don't know if they still do but for years they did. If you saw one years ago it was Garden State Fireworks shooting it.

They only causality we had was by a drunk 52 year old who threw a M80 into the bleachers where people were sitting and a lady got burned. M80's were considered to be the equivalent of a 1/4 stick of dynamite. But actually they are not.
Contrary to urban legend, an M-80 that contains 3,000 mg of powder is not equivalent to a quarter-stick of dynamite. Dynamite contains a stable nitroglycerin based high explosive, whereas M-80s or any other kind of firecracker contains a low explosive powder, like flash powder or black powder. But it's still enough explosive to do damage if it lands on you.

A few bombs getting made for a show. These were not the biggest ones.

So stop blaming the kids!:D

Edit,
And if it does turn out to be a kid, I still say he's one of a small number.
Everyone does some stupid stuff when their young, but the majority of the kids today are OK and know right from wrong. At least the ones I know.

I don't see how a firework landing on the bridge would burn it down, not to say it couldn't happen.

Most likely some fruitcake used an acceleration and torched it.
Though I don't know the bridge your talking about.

A link for it would be nice.:D:rolleyes:
