Look at the box car in these two eBay auctions... What on earth am I missing, why is one truck pushed way in? I have never seen anything like this before

The one on the left is turned backwards. The coupler is on the inside.

Yea, but look closer... Even if you pivot the truck around, it is mounted so far in that the coupler will still be under the car :o

Looks to me like the pivot point is not the middle of the truck, but rather is centered over the inside axle, or right in front of it.

Why would it be like that though? All the cars I have seen the pivot point has been centered between the two axles :dunno:

I will check out my Standard O Lionel later tonight and see, just for the heck of it...

E bay you're dealing with a wide range of sellers. That item sold for 98 bucks. I wonder if it's a far east ripoff? That' why I stay with used, lower price and evidence that shows wear. Let the collector's bid it out.

I do not know if it is a rip-off, to my knowledge "Trainz" is a very reputable seller, they even have their own business and online store... I too think that nearly $100 for that is a bit much, that is why I was wondering if it was something rare :dunno:

I think I will send him a message asking what is up and see if I actually get a response back from him...

Well, I still do not know... Apparently this is a rare, uncataloged item of which only 700 were made, and that is why they sell for over $100... I did more Google searching and found images which show the truck in a normal position :o

I just checked out my two Lionel Standard O train cars I recently bought, and they both pivot at the center of the truck just like all other model train cars I have seen, and just like real train cars do... So I am still confused :dunno:

Hmmm! The original picture is of poor quality. You would think that they would know the value and put the effort into a good photo. I don't think the truck is attached. It was set up on the box and a picture was snapped. Maybe they sold it for a customer. It would explain the picture.

A good picture is worth a thousand words! On ebay more money.

LOL, that is true T-Man... He sent me back a response, "Thakns [sic] for the question. One truck is turned around backwards underneath the car in the picture. This is what causes it to look funny."

I do not know, it is just boggling my mind, LOL... Trains4MyBoys, you must be right about where it pivots... Also, the end of the car with the odd truck does not have footsteps on either side... The only thing I can think of is that this is some special feature, and an odd one at that... Of course since it is uncataloged it can not be looked up :sly:
