Hope every dad had a great fathers day. Mine was interesting.

Our au pair totalled my wife's minivan on Saturday night. She made a left in front of someone, got hit in front and spun around, while the other car smashed into two cars on the side road. Judging by the damage on the passenger side too, she must have made contact twice. No one was seriously hurt, fortunately, but it wasn't a pretty scene. We were lucky to have my mother in law here to watch the kids when it happened, so my wife and I went to the scene. We were there until about 1am. I got to spend fathers day cleaning out the car, I couldn't imagine how much crap was in that car for the kids.

but I've got to give kudo's to State Farm. The au pair was on an international driver's license, and wasn't specifically listed on our insurance. We had called before, and the agent said she would be a "conditional driver" and we would be covered, but we were still very nervous that they would give us trouble over this. Called in the claim today, and they have absolutely no problem with it, they'll take care of everything. Our rates shouldn't even go up since this is the first accident in 8 years, and the last one was minor. Woohoo!

Yeah, my wife really likes the toyota, and you can't beat the convenience of a minivan when you have a family. Fortunately about two weeks ago I traded my pick-em-up truck for a big SUV, so we have a vehicle that can carry us around until we get the van replaced.

Accidents are so nerve racking.
It would be interesting to see if they total the car. From the pictures I see a lot of damages panels. With no frame damage, and the engine and drive train are ok. The vehicle could ride again. You have to admit it needs a lot of parts.

Happy Belated Father' Day

Good score, that looks like a great father's day!

Our annual train show is in august, and absolutely FILLS one tiny little room at the local conference center. Oh well, what do you expect for a frontier town? ;)

Thanks, and yeah, with four cars involved and her spinning, we are really lucky that no one was hurt. Thank God for seatbelts and modern car safety!

It's so hard to tell frame damage on unibody cars. The wheels are still in the right place, and the motor appears to be, although it's hard to tell since I can't open the hood and the headlight is pushed back about a foot. The condensor and radiator are pushed way back, and the radiator support is twisted like an "s" so I would be kind of surprised if the frame isn't squeezed in front. Besides, even that stupid power door mechanism runs about $1500, it adds up quickly.
