Are we talking about isolating a section of track?
You need a block at a reverse loop or you short out the track.
You can set up a block at a crossover to stop one train while another passes through. Or set up a block on a loop so two trains will run together but not collide. Ablock is a ection of track that the current can be reversed or it can be shut for a delayed time while a track section ahead is clearing.

If a switch connects a loop yes. If it connects a circle no. The loop has the train passes through the switch and returns through the switch .

I am curious about isolating track as well. O-27. The plan is to have two trains running and they will use a "common crossover". The outside loop will be a FasTrack route. The inside loop will be tubular. I want to hook up a transformer for each loop to run each train separately in conventional mode.
Won't the electricity from each loop go thru the crossover into the other loop?
This is where my confusion lies. If it does how do you "isolate" it so you can control each train separately?
Thanks for your help on this.

Hey there. first part on getting good answer is asking good question.
perhaps you can formulate yours better (its not very concise and quite ambiguous at the moment). what do you have? what do you want to accomplish? what are your ideas on accomplishing this?
