Hey there folks!

I got a question - do any of you own or know the owner of a train store?
(you know - regular retail location).

A guy I know is buying one. He asked me about what software he should
use to keep track of higher end inventory, sales, parts, prices, etc.
The current owners run all the books on paper and the new owner is wanting to
use a computer in the business... so besides your average quick books
retail edition - is there anything optimized for trains? or something that a
current train store owner thinks really works out great?

Tell him to hire me (not really, LOL), I am attending college to receive an accounting degree ;)

I really have not looked into any accounting software myself yet, not even Quick Books... I personally like doing everything out by hand, but if forced too I will use a computer program

Yeah, I've searched high and low - it looks like quickbooks is it.
There is inventory software for trains, but nothing that ties it in to
a pos - but with a relatively small market, thats not TOO much of a
surprise, I was just hoping for the best.

I'd put a good word in for you B&M, but that would be one heck of a morning
commute!!

My wife used to have a bridal shop. We looked into a retail system by a company called symbol I believe. We didn't get it but if I remember correctly this system would all of that plus more. But I think it was rather expensive and that is why we didn't get it.Try google "retail software".

LOL, one of my accounting teachers called Quick Books the anti-accountant because you can delete journal entries

I did the same searching and finally settled on a database at: www.primasoft.com. You can even customize it to your applications.
