dusty environment protection

I'm going to be running a single loop inside the back end of my garage away from the overhead door. It will be on the inside perimeter about 6 feet off the floor and appx 45 in length. I'm interested in any easy tricks out there to keep the tracks protected from dust when the trains aren't running. The garage is my only option to accomodate my newly acquired n scale passenger cars. Thanks for any ideas.

I keep a thin plastic drop cloth (available at Lowe's) over my layout when not in use. I have two big dog that keep my home dusty. The fact that the dogs and I live in the man cave with the trains dose not help.

I am OCD an absolutely hate dust! I think when I build a permanent layout I am going to encase it in air-tight glass :laugh:

air tight glass and no dust. i wish. guess ill try the plastic for now.

You can make a light wood frame and staple plastic to it. Or staple one side and roll it up when trainning.Lal Laugh a little.

I don't think you have too many good options, it really depends on the condition of your garage. As an example, if you have exposed rafters and the ceiling in the garage is the 2nd floor of your house, expect alot of junk and dust ending up on the tracks which would be the kiss of death. But if you have sealed and painted drywall for a ceiling, and sealed walls, that is better. Really depends on the environment.

N scale is really small - if it was in a larger scale you could assemble a 'vacuum' train with a mini vac :)

Wait - you have N and your only option is the garage ???! :)

i envy all of you except for z scalers. maybe garden railroad is the way to go.
