    Thanks for the comment,

I can't take credit for the paper trick (interweb) as for the paint ... I was looking for some primer for the paper to mix With some latex paint texture as a base when I saw the rattle can! ? An idea was born

The idea of the rock paint is brilliant. One of those things that generally isn't thought of, as well as the masking paper. Sweet layout on the cheap.

Thanks for the interest, A little background, I bought a Harley Davidson collector set (garage sale) turned out it was missing one piece of track go figure! Layout was originally 4x16 built on the fly by leap froging track at that time I could only go point to point!
Layout construction consists of my desk, plywood and cardboard for sub roadbed 1x2 risers every 6" for elevation the mountains are heavy masking paper crumpled and stretched and painted with 3 colors of krylon "stone" paint.
Fast forward to this x-mas got two starter sets on sale. That led to down sizing to 4x12 and I was finally able to complete the loop Yea!
After looking at it I realized I could go 8x12 with the existing track! With the real CFO's approval (it's in the dining rm.) we added to it and it's up and running!
All I need now is the bachmann track pack for some yard area and sidings.
Grade is about 2% give or take!
Locos are two Walther's and two bachmann and rolling stock (16) is mixed
Typical consist is 3 locos and all cars!
Bridge is hand built with scrap wood and a horizontal blind valance for the roadbed. I should note the only money spent has been on the trains (160.00) and paint (18.00) the rest is left over from jobs!!!
