Sent a PM to Emile, to find out his intentions on staying a member here, as PTC is doing. I know he got miffed with the Thread move, and has been silent since. Waiting for an answer from him, to see what he plans on doing

The red 1506? Yes, high bidder so far. I'd really like to add this red, blank-boiler-front little loco to my collection. Keeping fingers crossed ... though I'm amazed at how high a recent 1501 and black-red 1506 garnished ... $64 and $70, respectively ... locos, alone. The 1501 was missing its boiler front. Cheers, TJ

TJ...now that I have break until September, I may something productive accomplished. The following may be viewed as not productive.

Yesterday, there was an issue on the site, that contained a photograph that had been changed by another member and re-posted, all done in good faith, but without the knowledge of the photographer. This can generate a negative position for the site. This as brought to mind a previous life activity at involved the establishment of a company policy and guidelines for use of internet material generated by other. This included “copyright material” and intellectual property. Bottom line is that we did what so many others have done is state that if your are going to place material on the company's internal site, you will need to post the link rather than the actual material. If the picture being posted does not contain a copyright notice it could still be protected under the intellectual property provisions.

When I became involved in model railroading, I was told about a fellow that was posting railroad pictures, that contained the copyright notice. Another fellow was downloading the picture of buildings models that had been produced for sale, preparing working drawings for folks to use to build the model, and posting this on a site. It is my understanding, that I both cases someone raised the alarm and one site was told they were going to be sued. So, I did a little query of what folks, that ran sites were doing to protect them selves from frivolous lawsuits and I found that many sites require that a link be provided if the picture was not taken by the person doing the posting. The legal folks at Microsoft were very generous in helping me understand the best action to be taken....post a link if you did not take the picture. Sure, someone can post a picture and say they took it, but you do not have the time or resources to determine the strength of that. Best practice is to verbalize a position regarding picture posting that states that if you took the picture it is okay to post, if not provide only a link.

I would further suggest, for your consideration, that the changing of one's pictures, by another, but subject to prior approval.

It appears highly likely that “trainboy” has returned as “trainking”. In the past, a lot of undesirable posting were made by “trainboy” such that his posting could, most likely, be best served by appearing on Facebook. To shortstop his posting that are not in the spirit of site, to promote model railroading, is would suggest that the folks that oversee the site, remind him that his postings, not promoting model railroading, will be removed or closed and that he will be notified of such actions and what he can expect if further such postings are made.

He should have access to the site, as long as it is in the spirit of model railroading. If he plays by the rules and spirit and wishes to gain knowledge of the hobby, he should be concerned as a asset to the site, if not, he should not be a member of the site. He is young boy, who seems to have some difficulty in relating with others. Quick action by the moderators is necessary to shut off threads and associated posting to that thread that lead to degradation.

Well, off to fight the battle in court (as I get older, I really wonder the value of all of this).

Look at a thread by the screen name "Kwister" titled "Gone to Far". In the post I responded to his post re. his spelling issue. My intent was not to degrade, but remind him. My response seems to be hanging out in the air with no focus. Many things happen in the world and I just hope that if this member stays on the site, that it will be a learning experience for him. Thus far it seems to be one of problem creation.

Sure ... you likely mean remove posts from a thread, though, right?

    Point me to the place.

Dumb question...do you have the ability to remove threads from a post? Seems that one trainboy's threads to a post had been removed and it left my comment showing as something out of the clear blue sky.

    Funny story....

I was eating breakfast with my 13 year old granddaughter and I asked her, “What day is the 20th of February?” She said “it's President's Day!” She is a smart kid. I asked “What does President's Day mean”? I was waiting for something about Washington or Lincoln...etc. She replied, “President’s Day is when President Obama steps out of the White House, and if he sees his shadow we have one more year of unemployment.” You know, it hurts when when hot coffee spurts out your nose....

TJ...quick not regarding trainman/traingirl. I have been told by a very reliable source that its is highly likely that they are one in the same. The .edu that both use is a venture that allows students to have a internet account while in school and a second for their home unit. Interesting the things one can find out when has had the opportunity to employee ex-federal agents.

    TJ:

Your caboose has arrived safe and sound and I sent your $ off to you. I see it cost you $3.09 to mail and I only sent you $3.00, sorry to have stiffed you. I am now in the process of considering what course I will take. I think I will sand the top and sides but leave enough of the lines on the side to mark in with markers. Still trying to figure it out.

    Thanks,

    Bud

Can you please move my other two post from the thread I have made. I can't continue to post pictures till you either move the two postings or move the one posting back to my original thread. Either or it doesn't matter.

    Thanks, Jason

We've had that question discussed recently ... myself, T-Man, etc. I can tell you that the metal on these cast shells is rather brittle. I tried to bend a bump on my 1688 shell (a cold bend), and it cracked in my hands. Heat helps, of course, but the question is "how hot?". Do you plan on fully stripping the shell? If so, you don't have to worry about a torch and paint degradation, of course. I'd say: give it a shot (after stripping), but work carefully.

    Hello, tj,
At last I eBayed a 1668E shell for my good motor. It's rough but intact. The steps are bent (typical!). Wonder if I can heat (using a propane torch) and reform them?

Sure ... create a new thread either in the N section or in the My Layout section and post your question there, along with any info and concept sketches you already have. We have a couple of guys on the forum who are quite skilled with track layout software, and might jump in to help you out.
