Greetings all,

I'm new to the hobby. I'm wanting to build a small (3'x4') N Scale layout on a limited budget. I have yet to make any major purchases - Controller, Locos, Track. Does anyone know of any retailers, websites that typically have Father's Day Sales?

A store in Denver does internet sales, and they're having a 15% off sale on N and HO items. Here's a link to them:

I checked out caboose's "sales" price.
( I only compared this set)
The Kato #106-0017 Amtrak P42 Superliner Phase IVb starter set

Trainworld has them beat by a lot. $35 bucks.

Trainworld's> http://www.trainworld.com/manufactu...42-superliner-phase-ivb-starter-set-106-0017/

Caboose> http://www.caboosehobbies.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3_6&products_id=147540

$224 at caboose (sale price?)
$189 at Trainworld
$35 bucks more at caboose.

Maybe I missed something?
Do you take another 15% off caboose's $224 price?

I don't know about their prices, Ed. I saw they were having a sale, and posted the info so SantaFeKid could shop. I reckon he (you) could call them and ask...

Big Ed's right. Your best bet is a starter set.
You get the best with Kato. But you pay for quality.

Maybe get a set and some extra track with it.
First design a layout. With N scale, even a 3 x 4 can be a really nice layout.
It's worth the extra bucks to get what you want at first.
Wouldn't hurt to go to the drugstore and pick up a copy of Model Railroader either.
And look online for scenery ideas.
This just happens to be a great forum for that.
