would it be of any interest to you to have a thread discussing a higher level application that utilizes the locomotives that can move specific distances?
i think a useful perspective is from that of a conductor who is not interested in how far to move a locomotive but to couple to a car or uncouple a car at a particular location.
this isn't trivial. I think know using 2-way communication with a central system that knows current car positions and destination positions would be helpful and having a way to know where exactly a loco is on a particular track are necessary
Actually I have to find someone to successfully build the decoder hardware. Had a manufacturer that came very close but just couldn’t (or didn’t) get the motor direction control circuit working. I have about given up on anybody currently in the DCC business. Apparently a simple inexpensive approach to train automation is too big a threat to the current way of doing DCC business.
Apparently the BlueRail/Bachmann product will never be open-interface, so I am defiantly not interested in having one. My main interest is in doing the decoder firmware. I believe the firmware in the present decoders leaves a lot of room for improvement.
