    Hi T-Man. I am new to MTF, but have noticed some of your posts and you seem to know a lot about O Scale trains. I have a question for you, if you don't mind. Or I can post it on the forum - whichever you think is appropriate. I have an older MTH Railking engine that has been sitting for quite a while. I'm now trying to get it running - grand kids. I purchased a new 9 volt rechargeable battery for it, but it still doesn't run great. I never liked having to move the transformer lever back and forth to put it into different modes, so I was wondering if there was a way to just put together something to manually control forward, backward and speed. What do you think? Thank you for your help. Tinman (Brian)

    Yes, they did work great and were gratis from the local dentist office. I just did a deep maintenance on my Century and now it runs very smooth, especially with the tires. Thanks for the help T -man.

    Working my way through the navigation, and my apologies for any errors. This for T-man. Your avatar looks like an Alco Century switcher, and I recently picked one up, but it needs tires. Any thoughts on what to get and from where. I believe my model was made by AHM, and was produced with a Santa Fe livery (blue and yellow) but with a stretch and some decals I could fashion it into a D & H switcher. The D & H never had one, and don't think the Santa Fe had one, (from Alco anyway) but my railroad, my rules. Ha. ha.
    Interesting, Alco only sold 26 of these. Did not do much for their bottom line methinks. Anyhow, would appreciate any guidance. Thank you.

    I'm getting a pre-war Marx CV train back on the tracks after many years of storage. It is running and reversing, but slows and stalls in certain sections of the track instead of running at a steady pace. Where do I start to correct the problem? Thanks! Jim

    Hello there, Bob. How you doing? I hope good.

    I just have one small question, don't want to start a whole thread just for this:

    I have a Lionel 8632. The engine has absolutely no traction whatsoever.
    There are no places for those traction rings for other locos.

    My question is, can I glue those traction rings on the drivers with no places for them?
    I thought crazy glue would work.
    It would certainly improve traction! But I'm wondering if the rings would stay attached

    Has anyone done this in the past? I'm curious about the results.

    Bob, That is a Hoge 900 Shovelnose Streamliner set, that is only missing the set box, but otherwise complete. It was made in 1935, and when my cousin decided he wanted to return MY Lionel trains from when I was a kid (they were passed on to the cousins when I hit teenage), he let me have everything that was train related. The "Shovelnose" is the only one that required 5 rails, and so that is the very first 5 rail track ever made. The two inner rails are flat brass/copper? (it's boxed up right now), that one rail activated a buzzer, the other rail activated a bell. The 950 transformer is for this set only, and has two of the buttons on top to either activate the bell or buzzer. The original "Hoge Lockon" is included. This set to me is super rare, because I have the complete set, as issued. Yes, it runs but forward only, and the gearing makes it run super fast. It only takes a few volts to run at a normal speed, otherwise it will launch itself at the first curve!! I restored the paint, and beat out a serious dent in the front nose, and used a little chrome polish to the tops.

    Well there is only one with epoxy sides. It is one the sideline for now. The only kitbashing was the 1224 engine with a 1666 motor on a 2018 shell with 224 steam chest.

    Hmmmmmmmmmm..might the other ones be more epoxy than actual shell???? Gotta hand it to you, with salvaging the one shell. I am actually working on a little project myself, with a torpedo shell. It was an extra one I bought for parts, and a duplicate of something I have already. I'm toying with the idea of "kitbashing" an S-1 torpedo with two motors in tandem, Loewy's 6100 torpedo. I already cut the body in half, and just have to make a mold, to create an extended mid-section.
