Northlandz saved from oblivion
We visited Northlandz about fifteen years ago and it was in sad shape. I wasn't surprised to hear it closed a while later. But I was surprised to hear that it has been cleaned up, touched up, and will reopen bigger and better.

Do you think he had a modeling problem? :D
Last time I went was around 2000.

He had the outside train ride running too.

The new owner spent over 300,000 cleaning up and adding to the attraction.

I may have to visit once again.
I am only 30 mins away.

I forget how many TONS of plaster he used but it was a lot.

Found a video from 2017

I went there in 2015 after a ride behind the Black river and Western Consolidation. It didnít impress me as being dirty or run down. I was impressed with it, but a bit disappointed that most of the trains were rather short for such a giant layout. I didnít know it was ever closed. From their website, the new owner reopened it last September. Not sure if they are open now. The site only lists hours through 1/5/20.

I've never seen a layout with so many spans and so few trains.

This looks like a cross between a Mad Max and Indiana Jones movie set.

There were trains, but the most impressive things were the bridges. Hereís one for you MichaelE.

it's neat looking, if a bit haphazard. They need much longer trains and run them slower, IMO.

The video suggests to me that they still haven't gotten the message, a train display needs to have trains! I won't be rushing back, I already saw the scenery a couple of times.

Isn't that vid still from when it was the old management?

gunrunnerjohn 01-12-2020 06:00 PM

Don't know, I believe 2017. When I see and/or hear something that really changes my mind, I'll consider another visit. While I found the scenery spectacular, it was too much of the same. For a mile of walking, they need to vary the style of the scenery.
