Should be able to pop it onto a powered chassis. Obviously, you'll probably have to do some shell wiring, depending on the specifics of the donor engine.

You're swimming upstream paying premium bucks for the 4.5V wallwart. Buy a 5V one for a couple dollars and add a series diode, instant 4.5V for your lights.
