Hello all,
I have always wanted to run model trains. At one point I got a great deal on a "Snap-On" H/O train kit and ran it. Was fun. Even bought some flex track and just ran it on the floor.
I needed a new train controller (forgive me as I need to learn the terms of all the stuff) and found a guy on craigslist. He wouldnt sell me just what I needed and wanted it all gone. He was selling it for $1200 and i bought it for $600 as he had to move out that day. It was tons of boxes. Houses, trains, cars, etc...
I ended up ebaying 90% of it and some lost $ and some made money so i got my cash back and got to keep the controller. still all boxed up. Also kept some locomotives and the pennsylvania locomotive and cars. Got hosed selling the Amtrac loco and cars.. think it cost me $20 to get rid of it... oh well...
anyway.. that was years ago.
last year my friends moved into a new house and her father passed away. He had many O trains and she wanted to get them all running at some time but never did. Just the other day, she said come and get it so i have a ton of O gauge now sitting in my garage.
My father gave me a Lionel Trolley O gauge that he got at the thrift store. New in box!!!! and I was just running it but it is now acting up. I think due to the track connectors not contacting or something...
anyway... I will start to read up some and post as we do a Department 56 layout for halloween and xmas and i want to start using trains. May get them all going so cant wait to dive in more...thx all for your knowledge and patience!!!!!

totally understand. wife did that setup and i agree. trolley lights up and if you push down on it a bit...you feel it want to drive. took it all apart and nothing in the gears...
That link to the track cleaning thread need the video and pictures are missing.
I asked the T man if he can fix it up.
It seems like a lot of old threads are messed up.
The Photobucket hijack has to do with it, as they demanded money for what used to be free for posting your pictures.
Those that didn't pay have their photos blurred.

Wow, it certainly sounds like you had one heck of a merry Christmas! Lots and lots of trains in two different scales!
Welcome to the forum, and to a great hobby. It sounds like the control device you needed is a DC "power pack." I'm glad you found one.
The files below have lots of information on many model railroad subjects, including a sort of model train"Dictionary" where you can look up any terms you're not sure of. There is also a good book I recommend to new model railroaders. It's called "Getting Started in Model Railroading" by Jeff Wilson. It covers a wide variety of model railroad subjects in simple text and color photos. You can order a copy from https://kalmbachhobbystore.com/products/books
