Well in this case one is bluetooth and the other is an old transformer wire style controller.

I just bought my son a new Lionel Bluetooth controlled train set by Lionel. I was hoping to run my old HO engine on it from when I was a child. Is there anyway to do this? I put the old engine on the track and it moves when plugged in. But no way to control it. Thanks in advance!

I doubt it, not easily. You probably already know the new train has a power pack that supplies full power to the track, and the loco has a decoder controlled through bluetooth.

You *may* be able to put a variable transformer to the track to control the old loco, but the new one is going to require come level of constant voltage to run. Anything below that voltage would prevent it from working properly, and may eventually damage it... perhaps.
