single motor, double reduction. the locomotive is quite heavy, no traction tire.

Thanks for the video explaining what you did making them compatible with knuckle couplers.
Yes those 21s SF engines good runners for Marx having hefty trucks and such.

Thanks Ben for posting another informative follow-up video. Marx does indeed make some engines with some grunt to them. I thought I heard some slight wheel slippage when the Marx 21 first powered up that heavy 15/16 car consist. Paper joiner looks to be a winner if it can hold up to the heavy consist.

the red and yellow locomotives are Lionel DC generals that have been converted to AC by installing rectifiers on the motor. they are physically identical to the AC counterparts but are a third of the cost. the entire yellow set with 5 cars was $ 40...
