On30 Engine voltage & current

Cannot find anything on the internet. What voltages and current draw of On30 engines?

I don't know, never measured it. I think you mentioned in another thread that you might be able to use your HO transformer. What size is it?

I would imagine the voltage would be OK, and I can tell you that I am running a steam loco for my holiday layout with a 1 amp 16V transformer... I'm using DCC, but that's the power pack I use for it.

HO is 16 volts DC max and draws .3 to .5 amp. I have 1 amp so I have enough power.

you haven't run an old gray motored Athearn yet , lol ..they -can- be well over an amp in stall mode ..

but 1 amp should be more than enough for newer locomotives ..

I will stay with two new engines. I also found out On30 uses same motors as HO engines.
