Those rollers are very worn, but as long as the loco runs, they're not worn out. Replacing them would be prudent, if only to get another 50 years of running out of the loco.

Look at the wheels on that baby, it looks like they are starting to get pretty grooved also. You might want to think about replacing them also.

As posted above the wheels themselves are starting to groove perhaps one day traction tires would fit!
Never seen that type of lionel roller worn down quite that much but similar to the slider prewar war shoes in the way they are taken out . The roller bracket end (not seen) hooks into a copper or brass strip easily pushed with a thin blade of sorts to release the bracket with roller attached , installing new one not that expensive is very simple.
