I have the opportunity to pick up a Varney train set from 1953 with track, Loco and all orignal cars intact.

I see the couplers do not match my Life-Likes, nor Tycos but hoping to resolve that one way or another.

My biggest concern is that the Varney does not come with any transformer so I am looking to be sure that they were in fact DC trains that can be powered safely from a Tyco or Life-Like DC power unit.

Does anyone know?

Thanks

It's definitely D.C.
Any transformer or D.C. powerpack will work... that is, if the locomotive still works.
Its motor and running gear might be inoperable after all these years.
