I tried this on the HO forum, but figured I would extend it out to all scales because it is not specific to HO.

While reading my instructions for the Tortoise Switch Machine they recommend locating an 8 position terminal block near the switches.

How do they work, what is the advantage to using one? are they actually mounted to the Tortoise or just placed near it? Any information would be greatly appreciated so I can figure out if I need to purchase them or not!

Thanks!

I think maybe they are thinking to give you a way to isolate the tortoise switch from the harness - i.e. in case the wires get yanked, it doesn't pull your connector out of the tortoise switch or damage any of the terminals. I've got them on my layout and I'm not using a terminal block - works just fine.
