Hello everyone,
I'm from Washington State in the USA. I got interested in the Virtual Railfan website awhile back and decided to give model railroading a try. I'm truly enjoying it and am just getting started. I recently purchased an HO starter set along with some extra track and some scenery. I have it set up on the floor right now but I'm looking forward to getting it on to a small layout.
Thanks and take care :smilie_daumenpos:

W-WA Railfan;

Welcome to the forum! I recommend getting your train up off the floor as soon as you can. The dust (and possibly carpet fibers) down there can get into a locomotive and harm it. Even a clean bed sheet between the floor and the track will help a little. A better solution would be to get it up onto some type of permanent table or shelves. My own N-scale railroad is mounted on shelves in my garage. It is set in the Seattle area. The centerpiece structure is Seattle Union Station. My model of it is shown in the photos below. The longer exterior walls are kitbashed from Design Preservation Models kits. The shorter walls and the interior are scratchbuilt. The attached pdf files are some that I wrote for new modelers like you. They have lots of general info on building a layout. Hopefully, they will get you started on a permanent layout.

Again Welcome;
