attracting new subscribers is good goal but in this instance it is not attracting but "forcing". and with all the resources available how many will stay? critical mass for survival of the resource is achieved some time ago, now its just more numbers. i think its about time to work on quality and blocking content is bad long term strategy. "numbers don't lie" (and in this instance they do lie actually) but just how many of those numbers forced to sign up become active contributing members?

you probably familiar with concept of "lurkmore". basically encouraging new users to only read for some time before they start posting, something welcomed at every serious technical (and not technical) resource for obvious reasons. view limit crushes that practice. another issue is being able to reference the resource. for example the russian/canadian modeler i'm corresponding with, can no longer see pages i'm linking to. how this site can be a viable techniocal resource then?

its your decision obviously, but as i see it removing the view limit would be step in right direction.

I agree with Tankist that just because you are forcing people to register, doesn't mean they will stay, or even contribute. The great thing about this forum and reason that I signed up was the core posters on here give very helpful replies to any questions that may be had. The quality was the sole reason. I haven't made it to my reading limit yet on my phone, but will be a little annoyed when I have to sign in, which can be a pain, when I am on the road (not literally on the road, that would be bad if I was reading this while driving around).
