Hi. I have an old Atlas crossing light which is designed to flash by intermittent contact of a metal strip over one of the rails as the cars go over it. Is there an inexpensive inline flasher available that I can use instead of this metal contact strip? Thanks.

of course. you can build one based on 555 chip . http://home.cogeco.ca/~rpaisley4/CircuitIndex.html
or if you not into electronics, your dollar store is probably full with all kinds of cheap Chinese flashing toys. or in worse case how about gutting a bycicle flasher?
