You will need a Cruise Commander for these and likely a new Railsounds board. This has very early non modular TMCC so a Cruise M won't work. Worthwhile project though. This engine has two giant motors, much bigger than most all other diesels. The only other one so equiped that I am aware of is the DL&W PA that came out at the same time.
BTW these didn't come with TMCC. The sounds are described as Railsounds but they weren't operated with a handheld. You should open it up a see whats in there first.

I have to admit I am not familiar with those very early boards but for sure they are not modular TMCC so you will need a Full blown Cruise Commander and a Railsounds board. QSI sound was designed to accept DC offsets and not serial data. You will have room for a large speaker with an enclosure so sound should be excellent.

Now to muster up a little courage!! I added Cruise to a TMCC diesel years ago and it turned out fine.

Hard part is just pulling out the current electronics and trusting yourself!!

This engine will be worth the effort. It, along with the D,L,&W version were built by Samhongsa. Besides the bigger motors it has better detail than the PAs Lionel built a few years later. Maybe even better than the Legacy ones recently released but I have not seen those yet.

The ATSF and NYC PAs Lionel made in Michigan in 1997 use the same motors, but the tooling was modified to reduce a lot of the add on detail. I have and ABA set of the ATSF PAs from 1997 (two powered A units, Railsounds B unit). I'll eventually upgrade them with ERR Cruise Commanders but, as they sit with 4 of those big motors, they can pull like crazy.
