Over the weekend I picked up a 40' Green Bay & Western AHM box car at a flea market. Unfortunately it is missing the top "rail that the car door slides on. Any leads where AHM parts might still be obtainable?

There were different versions of AHM freight cars over the years. Could you post a side view pic of it? Also, look on the bottom, it will be marked ROCO, Rivarrossi, Tempo, Austria, Yugoslavia, Tiawan, or AHM.
The mark will help find the correct guide.

Look inside the car...
I know it sounds dumb, but as a kid I kept loose parts that fell off a boxcar -- inside the car (until I got around to reglueing them on).
Sometimes small parts won't rattle around like you'd think.

I am not totally convinced your car is Roco. Most of the Roco cars from AHM were marked on the bottom. This marking had RO on the top and CO on the bottom the the word Austria next to this. AHM may or may not appear on the bottom. The trucks are also unique to ROCO. While most AHM suppliers had similar trucks, they can identify the maker.
At one time or another, most of the train makers made stuff for AHM. Bachmann and Athearn parts were frequently used. Without more detail, I would say your car could be a Roundhouse MDC shell. If that is the case, you could expand your part search for the plastic door slide. The door type and that it slides are questions relative to ROCO to me.
It would be instructive to see the bottom and the brake end.

No problem! Hope it works for you.

I have to throw a flag on the AHM origins comments, though. AHM never made anything, they sourced items from many countries over the years. That's why they could sell a boxcar for $1.29 when even a Tyco car cost more( I'm talking about the early '70's)
Bachmann originally did the same thing, as did Life Like. No way was Bernie Paul of AHM buying MDC or Athearn stuff at their wholesale and selling them for less.
Bachmann/ AHM crossovers were because they sourced them from the same maker. Lionel '70's HO was the same way, They used ROCO items as well. I know because I've worked with these brands most of my life. At one time AHM offered some Lilliput stuff, but that was in the early 60's.
Moot point really, if you need a door guide, you need a door guide.:)
