What do I lose - if anything

By using the DCS REMOTE COMMANDER

as opposed to the APP - WIU - TIU

Thank you

MrToad
You can only control one train on one track. Every PS2 or PS3 locomotive will have to have an ID number of 1 or it won't work with the remote commander. You also have to point the remote at the remote commander for it to work. The ability to adjust the parameters of the locomotive. So quite frankly a whole bunch of things.

I have Handheld remotes and TIUs. Never used the DCS Remote Commander, but from reading the descriptions in the catalog and the website, the remote commander can only control one engine at a time and only controls 9 DCS commands. With the handheld remote and TIU you can have up to 99 locomotives loaded in the remote and you can run as many as your layout will fit. It also has softkeys with which you can control all the DCS commands that your loco features.

The DCS Remote Commander was designed as a throw-away cheap control to be packaged with starter sets. It's IR controlled, and you only control one locomotive. You can't really practically expand to multiple units as they all respond to the same IR commands.

The DCS Explorer is a step up, it's the currently packaged product for starter sets.
