Back when Amtrak was formed and they acquired most of the operating RR's passenger cars. A Rainbow Era passenger train passes through on the Seattle & Yakima RR.

A great looking consist with a nice mix. I like the C&O coaches with the train.

The real cars lived quite a while with Amtrak, once they converted them to 480v HEP. Their Heritage fleet was impressive. None are left at this point, as far as I know...

Amtrak formed in 1971. Depending on your age, you may have not seen the earlier trains that had a mix of various roads, mainly in the early 1970’s. They didn’t last long as common, older cars were culled out in favor of Budd stainless cars.

Like Tom says, they had a real assortment of cars for several years, they just put together whatever they had from the railroads that were folded into Amtrak.
