I think this is brass. It has a coating and when the coating is removed it starts to shine.Good start. While restoring a 248, I found out the "brass" behind the louvers was just painted steel.
I used Bartenders friend with a q-tip (cotton swab)How did you polish the brass without rubbing off the letters? Are they indented / etched in?
Are you planning to clear-coat the brass?
Nice project!

It's always like that. My motto, strive for perfection and be happy with excellence. You'll live longer.Did not turn out as good as I wanted it, has some flaws in the paint. I thought it was the tack rag, but had the same issues with the cars that I am working on, oh well, I will figure it out. Just making a runner this time. I will be working on the cars this week.

I always clear mine after I polish with krylon clear. That should keep the brass from tarnishing.J, thanks for the feedback re: your polished brass, Barkeeper's Friend, etc. Nice results!

Finished the cars and yes they are the same as the last 606'S and 608. These are going to be runners. Dark green tops and Girard green cars.Got the decals on the cars and sprayed with clear to protect them View attachment 540244 View attachment 540245 View attachment 540246
