Recently I stumbled, somehow, on an ebay website for 1:48 scale dollhouses, with dozens of types and sizes. Then I found Amazon sells many. All sorts of furniture and stuff is available, too, along with building summplies like contact paper for flooring and roofing, etc.

They look good in pictures, but I have never seen one.

Anyway, anyone ever used one of these? They are O-Gauge scale.
The biggest in the photos below is a bit more than 12 by 12 inch footprint, the ads say.

Not the structures but I have used all manner of 1/48th or "quarter scale" furniture, figures and (especially) other items such as utensils, glass, plates etc. in passenger car interiors. The quality is variable as many of these products are 3D printed and so slightly rough. On the other hand, there are quarter scale products that are amazing small scale replicas of the real thing.

Lee my local Hobby Lobby has those houses and all kinds of furniture and related stuff. I don't know the scale. I do know too big for my American Flyer/S scale so maybe they are correct for 1:48. Check there to see what you think as to scale.

“Quarter Scale” is true O scale and so figures in particular are bigger than you will find with the standard Lionel and MTH passenger and trackside figures. It would not surprise me if structures are too big for S scale but they will be proportionate to many O scale buildings such as those stocked by Scenic Express.

I ordered the really fancy one (upper left) in the montage I posted. It should be here in a week or two. Not sure what I will do with it but somehow it will end up on the layout. I think.

Actually, I bought it to see what these kits involved, not necessarily to get this mansion. I think I will be much more likely to use the "kit" to make several smaller, plainer farmhouses for the "rural western US" theme I am gradually converting my layout to, than this one big mansion.

Lee, based on what we have seen you do in the past, I am anxious to see what you come up with. Your imagination, creativity, and willingness to change are refreshing. It is quite often missing in our hobby.
