Hello. I just purchased a (like new in box) Athearn HO switcher that was produced in 2008. It is a MKT SOUND locomotive (NUMBER 59) and in the original box was included a small battery powered REMOTE CONTROL.
A)....Can you tell me what the REMOTE control was used for?
B)....Can you tell me what sound decoder was installed?

I am assuming the decoder was factory installed because the original box came with a small pocket that contained the REMOTE control AND the batteries.

THANK YOU.

Welcome, Frank!!
You probably have the MRC sound decoder(n)
Newer version was fitted with Tsunami (apparently shows a sticker on the box), with a much better reputation.
Remote control activates five sounds and the headlight.
Good Luck!! Let us know how it works out!

Yes, as CID has pointed out...this is a sound equipped loco that
can be run on DC or DCC tracks. It's decoder is controlled by
a wireless battery powered remote. It appears to be controllable
by a DCC controller, OR on a DC track by the wireless remote.

Google:p MRC DC/DCC decoder with battery remote. You'll
find installation and operating instructions via a PDF file.

I wonder now, if it's upgraded to Tsunami if the Wireless function would still work? Does it require a special decoder to operate like that? or would any dual function decoder accept wireless sound control?

Hello. Yes I got it going. Thank you. The wireless works when engine is on a DC track. Blows horn. Etc.
I use Digitrax and all is working just fine now. THANK YOU
