I am looking at purchasing an Athearn HO Passenger train set for my son. But the pictures/descriptions that I can find do leave a bit to be desired. Does anyone know the difference between the "heavyweight" and the "daylight" sets? All that I can tell is that with the heavyweight sets you get 7 passenger cars, while with the daylight sets you only get 6, and for just about the same price.

Heavy weights were run in the 1920's and 30's primarily and generally pulled by steam engines.

The daylight is a color scheme used by southern Pacific. Most of my passenger trains are the older "heavyweights".

I will try to locate some pics and post them for you.

Les hit it on the head. Athearn has been a solid, solid staple in the hobby since I can remember. Tou andyour son will have years of enjoyment if you takecare of the equipment. Your grandchildren cold be able to enjoy your "son's train" when the day comes.

Welcome to the board and the hobby.
