As you all may have guessed I am new to DCC. I have an atlas c424 loco with factory light board. There is an 8 pin dummy plug on the pc board. Am I to understand that a decoder can simply be plugged in and now it is DCC? If so, what decoder will work? I am having a hard time finding one. Thanks

Yes. Any decoder with eight pins will work,

I like ESU, Zimo, and Viessmann, but any 8-pin decoder will work.

I have an Atlas c425 (essentially the same as the 424), and it runs very well using a Digitrax DH126PS decoder.

I think a Soundtraxx MC1H102P8 would do fine, as well. This plugs directly into the socket -- no "connecting cable" at all.
