I look the look of these smaller Atlas 40' gondolas.
They have a "build date" of 12/18.

Possibly a dumb question but......

Prototypically speaking. Would any of these gondolas still be on the rails in "roughly" 40's era of my layout?

That would make the gondola about 25 years old....so, yes, they could still be in service....railroads tend to use their equipment until it absolutely falls apart....
