Frankly the source for parts will probably be what I often use: ebay or swap meets where i buy broken/partly disassembled older cars. then I canabilize them for parts.

Brasseurs shortens it to 8111031. $1.00 each but their shipping and handling is high so plan on ordering a few other items.

How did you find that number. I called lionel directly and they said there was not a parts listing for that caboose.

That lantern is used on many cabeese going back to the pre war 717. MTH uses a similar one on theirs but their parts pages are fairly useless.
Lionel shows it as NLA but I suspected a few dealers who do a lot a repairs might have had some around.

I have spares for at least one Caboose. Private message me for my address and send me a self addressed envelope, the kind with the bubble wrap inside and I'll send them to you.

Painting the area around the lenses black improves the appearance. An upgrade that costs nearly nothing.

I have an old caboose with these.

I upgraded it to LED and I glued a flat-top LED on the end of each stalk inside the caboose, really lights them up nice. The stock lighting didn't light them at all really.

For realistic side or end markers try contacting Royz Trains for Tomar (bulb and LED) along with power supplies. Or the rear facing red LEDs. Interior lighting also.

The Tomar markers can fit in many of the Lionel Side holes and affixed with a small amount of super glue.
