I've been looking for prewar set information. I tried Doyle's "Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains 1900-1942" (2005 edition), but it doesn't discuss sets.

Can anybody give me some book references? Thanks.

Yeah, definitely be patient with the price on that book. I bought it less than a year ago off Amazon for $45. I had my eye on it for a while. It goes up and down but there are always copies floating around in the $100 range.

The 152 appeared in 6 sets, of which 3 are freight, & 3 are passenger.

Set 92-Passenger, page 41
Set 162-Passenger, page 26
Set 163-Freight page, 26
Set 260-Passenger, page 43
Set 261-Freight, page 43
Set 290-Freight, page 44
I will be away, until Dec. 2, but from reading previous post, by beachead2, it appears that he has the book, and can fill you in, on what color the Engine is, and the associated cars to each set.

As beachead2 stated, he got his copy for $45, and the copy I got, a little over a year agot, I paid $30. I just kept searching, until I found a copy, at a very reasonable price. Just keep searching, or the one I llisted, has a "Make an Offer" choice. It all depends on how much you want to pay, and how badly you want the book. I think I searched close to 4 months, and stumbled across my copy, at $30. Just Dumb Luck on my part.
