I finally figured out how to instal the decoder on my own BUT now I can not change the address from the default 03. I emailed digitrax and they said [and I quote]: "You cannot change the address of a Tsunami with the DCS100/200 without Soundtraxx's Program booster".
So I am screwed here. And soundtrax says NOTHING about needing extra anything on their website in order to change the addresses on thier decoders.

Unless someone knows what buttons to press on the superchief to change the address I will have a 600 dollar dud on my hands. If I had known it was gonna be this difficult to get answers and help from soundtraxx and digitrax and bachmann I never would have gone into DCC. This so annoying I don't know what to say.
So any help would be appreciated thanks.

It sounds like you know how to solve your problem. I don't lnow much but you may need a power booster anyway. See the DCC section. I added the general address. to all the manuals. the decoder stuff was on pg 16 of the manual in the Dcc section. Remember basically your programming a custom computer. So read and purchase carefully.

I am assuming here that you are using Super chief Digitrax system, quick question, when you have the engine on the programing track, the super chief does see the decoder?

Cid yes everything works as in it goes forwards and back and all the sounds work etc. Just can't change the address is all.
From the other forums I was able to find out that the new decoders need a powerbooster. Tony's trains for instance sells something called a powerpax. So it is a known problem but when I asked about what was needed I was told nothing until AFTER I bought all this stuff. Anyhow problem is solved kinda. I will either say the heck with it and trash it all or bow to this and cave in to the powers that be and buy a power booster. Not sure what to do to be honest.

Glad to see you solved the problem. Be careful changing the CVs on that. Do it a little at a time. I finaly had to go to LHS to get it right.

Seems my power booster was around 50.00. Worth it. Get one. Are you using the calculator to get your CVs
set for your address?

I know this doesn't help the OP, but I've never encountered a dcc loco address that I couldn't change in about 5 seconds using the roco z21 dcc controller...

The sound decoders need additional power to program them.
