I had one of the very common small Christmas light sets that I took apart and saved all the light assemblies. Is there is any reason why I couldn't use these instead of the relatively expensive ones sold by Model Power and other manufacturers?

Heat????I should have been more clear on the type of lights. I'm talking about the very small lights; not the screw in type. They are about the width of a pencil. I'm hoping one of you guys are a wizz with electronics. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Unless the lights are LED, they will give off heat. The better half had the idea of using the "mini" Christmas lights to light a small town on our layout. The damn place melted. Roofs began to sag....... I don't think things would go ablaze but they surely melt...
