When I was young,
I had lots of friends.
There were school friends,
and neighborhood friends.
I had Park friends,
and church friends.

I knew all their names,
telephone numbers
and where they lived,
and they knew mine.

As I grew older,
my circles of friends
became smaller and
fewer.

Then, I got some more friends.
They were Army friends.
But they didn’t become close friends,
And soon were gone.

As an adult, my circles of friends
grew once again.
Marriage and children brought
new friends and more relatives,
also friends.

But, as all things must do,
friends became fewer,
and close relationships were lost.

Today, I have but a few friends.
Most are from my distant past,
and although we don’t meet in person,
I still count them as my friends.

I am a loner, and I admit to that.
It is why I have few friends.
I am sorrowful about that,
But it is a life I have chosen.

My dearest friend is my Wife,
Vija.
She is my constant companion,
And with her, I have shared
fifty years of my life,
and, I am eternally thankful
for her.

I tip my hat and raise a glass to you and Vija, Bob for 50 years together. Raise a glass to me and my wife Lorraine, for we are also in our 50th year. Life would be lonely and sad without her.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I was wool-gathering yesterday, reminiscing about my childhood and life in general and thinking about friends long past, and this sort of flowed out of that train of thought.

You never mentioned that you had a flock of sheep. :)

Just a small flock. I make lamb chops in the spring, sweaters in the fall and flocked wall paper the rest of the year.

Mmmmmm love lamb chops, wool makes me itch, flock the wallpaper, I would rather paint. :D

Singing this this just for you, a classic.
Everybody now, a 1, and a 2, and 3...........,
Baa, baa, black sheep
Have you any wool?
Yes, sir, yes, sir
Three bags full
One for the master
And one for the dame
One for the little boy
Who lives down the lane
Baa, baa, black sheep
Have you any wool?
Yes, sir, yes, sir
Three bags full
Baa, baa, black sheep
Have you any wool?
Yes, sir, yes, sir
Three bags full
One for the master

One for the little boy

Baa, baa, black sheep

Yes, sir, yes, sir
Three bags full
